When our credit union began on May 5, 1959, it was called the
East Syracuse Teachers Association (ESTA) Employees Federal Credit
Union (EFCU). Of the nine original Board
Members, William Metz still remains an active credit union
member.
By December 1959, total assets were $310.13, and there were 30 share accounts
totaling $267.50. The credit union's first home was in the shirt pocket of the first treasurer,
Bill Metz.
When the school district centralized in March 1962, the credit union's name became the
East Syracuse-Minoa School District Employees Federal Credit Union. In May 1962,
the name was changed to ESM FCU.
During the mid 1970's the credit union acquired a closet sized spot in
the high school to conduct business. Starting in about 1984, we
occupied a suite of offices until we built our current building
in East Syracuse in 1990. The 1996 merger of North Syracuse
Federal Credit Union and ESM FCU created todays ESM-NS FCU. Our
new branch on Centerville Place in North Syracuse opened in 1998.
We started 2005, our 46th year, with $45 Million in total assets
serving over 7,300 members!
We have truly been fortunate over the years to have had the talent, foresight, dedication
and imagination of the individuals our members have elected to the board. Without these boards
and the continued support of our members, the credit union would not have been possible.
